Jai Love

 On August 18, 1988 a star was born. At an early age Jai Love started singing in the church choir to follow her mother footsteps. Jai Love eventually converted over to hip hop after having her first experience in the studio with her older brother “Lil Ced”. Jai's unique husky vocals have caught the attention from her large fan base in Huntsville, Alabama. She has worked with several artist around Huntsville such as CJ DA DJ, Jay Valentine, Gritty Boi, Swagg Buddies Lil Ken, Cece Certified Bama Gurl, No Remorce, Chevy Lady, is just to name a few. As well as with Tana formerly known as Montana Da Mac, Q Pee, JawGa Boi, and Big Sam from lil Jon and the Eastside boys all from Atlanta, GA. Jai Love was part of Polarized Ent and then decided to part ways to do her solo projects years later. She now is managed by Michelle "Mimi" Parker. Jai's hit single "I’m Crazy" has been heard by many ears and have performed at many events in the surrounding area as well as in Atlanta, GA. She has won several showcases from Huntsville to Atlanta with Urban Vision Road to Stardom Contest being one. She was also nominated for female R&B artist of the year at the Urban Vision Award Show in Atlanta, Ga. 3375  Tell everybody your name and what area you represent?

   JAI  My name is Jai Love. I was born and raised in Huntsville, Al 

3375  How long have you been doing music and what made you get into music?

   JAI   I started singing as a child, around 5 or 6 years old. Both my parents are gospel singers who were apart of there own groups. They use to travel and perform in different cities. Growing up watching them made me want to be apart of someones group as well and stand in front of people and just sing my heart out lol. So I did but I remained solo.

3375  How would you describe your style and best attribute as an artist?

   JAI   I would say my style of music is combination of different genres. I listen to all type music and sometime coming up with just an r&b song can be hard when I want a little rock or blues type field with it. I try to stand out instead of blending in. Im very creative. So as I'm writing, I'm also picturing the video and the single covers. Most importantly, I think of my fans and how they can relate to it. 

3375  Tell us your greatest experience thus far as a music artist and why?

JAI   I would have to say my greatest experience as a music artist is being nominated for #BestFemaleArtistOfTheYear for the Urban Vision Award Show in ATL and just when I least expect I would be nominated again. Right now, as of April 8, 2014, I am nominated for #BestFemaleRnBArtist for the SMC Award Show in Memphis, TN. I didn't win the first show but I'm praying I will bring this one home. I'm an independent artist out here grinding on my own. I'm not apart of no entertainment labels or nothing and to still be recognized for my hard work make me feel good and it motivates me to keep going.

3375  What is the biggest challenge you face being an artist?

   JAI  My biggest challenge I'm facing right now as a artist is getting my fan base outside my city. I didn't come from a wealthy family to make it easy for me to pack up and travel to promote my music. Me and my team have to come up with strategies and figure out ways to build a fan base the best way we can. So social networks is our best friend right now. Once an opportunity comes around, that's when we pack up and travel. Lets not forget i am fully independent which means all expenses are coming out of my pockets while maintaining a living as well.

3375  Who would you like to collaborate with in the music industry and why?

   JAI   I have several artist I would like to collaborate with. But if I had to chose just one, I would go with Mary J Blige. She is one of the female artist I grew up listening to. Her music is raw and relatable. Something we don't hear much of in this day is time anymore. 

3375  So how do you feel you rank against top music talents today? And why?

   JAI  When it comes to rankings. I feel once that fan base is build I can be on top. Why? I'm bringing something back to the music field that's been missing for awhile and that's classic, real life r&b music. Everything I have ever wrote and recorded has been either a situation I went through or an experience I'm going through at the moment. My songs are relatable rather I'm angry, sad, hurt, or happy. Someone will listen to my songs and say, "Girl I can definitely relate."

3375  What are you working on now, and when can fans expect to hear more from you?

JAI  Right now I'm working on visuals as well as a mixtape. I'm super excited to announce I will be recording my first video on April 27, 2014 to my new single, which i willing be dropping very soon, called Love and Louis Kole will be directing that one. Also following that video I will be shooting another one for my first single, I'm Crazy and Jurian Isabelle will be shooting that one. I haven't set up a release date just yet for the dropping of my mixtape but I'm hoping I can have it done by the end of this year. I'm a perfectionist so I'm taking all the time I can to make sure its the perfect mixtape.

3375  Give readers one tip about pursuing their dreams?

   JAI  The only thing I can say is keep God first. No matter what people say, don't ever give up. Patience is a vulture and by taking your time on your project, whatever it is it may be, only makes you better. You don't have to be a follower. Standing out makes you more competitive rather than being in the competition. Its hard work but if your passionate about your dreams it will be nothing to chase them til your toes bleed.

3375  So what do you want to accomplish as an artist overall?

   JAI  Really my only accomplishment is to have a job in doing something I love doing and music is what I enjoy. I love writing, singing, and being on stage. If I'm ever hired I can bet I'll receive the best employee awards every year lol.  But as an artist. I just want to be the best while sharing my stories, songs, to the world.

3375  If music never existed, what do you think you would be doing? 

  JAI  Man, that's tuff!! I can say I am a very humble person. I love kids and I get a kick out of speaking with them and motivating them to be a better them. Our young society is missing that now. They don't have that person pushing them to do good in school or showing them that there is better things they can be doing then what's out there. So I'll probably start my own organization that represents doing just that. 

3375  Tell us your influences and inspirations?

JAI   My influences is to make positive music that can change the way people think. To have organizations that focus on the children and also on those in need such as those suffering with illnesses or people who live in poverty and truly cant afford to eat. To clear the streets of homeless people and help them on how to live a normal life again. I have so much I would like to do its ridiculous lol. That's just a few lol.

3375  What do you think of the “R&B and Hip Hop music world right now?

   JAI   Honestly I think r&b is lost and Hip Hop is confused. Whoever said  hip hop is only songs about drugs, killing, sex, and money. No ones making real music anymore. 

3375  What quote do you feel best represents you?

  JAI  The quote that best represents me will have to be, " God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers." I have been through a lot in my life and I can truly say that if it wasn't for God's grace and mercy, I do not know where I will be.

3375  What music do you have playing in your sound system right now?

  JAI  Lol the song I was playing in my sound system would be none other then me lol. I been playing my new single #Love since I got the finally cut of it lol.

Brown Gyrls, Incorporated is a vision given by God to Latasha Johnson in October of 2013.

 Mrs. Johnson, who already has a thriving accessory business in Che’ Bella Customs and 

partner in Put It On A T-shirt Clothing, decided that there was a need 

for a parent company to house these ventures. Thus, Brown Gyrls, Inc was born. BGI is not

only a home for these companies but also an entity on its own. BGI produces events

3375  Tell us when and how your career got started?

Tasha  I really through myself into this career. I've always loved a good party and loved to have fun. Event planning just kind of came to me. Ive always wanted people to have a good time and just wanted to be apart of making it happen.

3375   Can you tell us about Brown Gyrls?

 Tasha  Brown Gyrls is an event planning and promotions company. We produce events of our own such as our semi annual SASS event, complete with vendors and our Sticks N Stilettos event that is coming up in June. But we also plan events for clients anything from birthday parties to black tie events. No event is too big or too small. 

3375   How did Brown Gyrl come about?

Tasha   Brown Gyrls is a vision I received from God honestly. I had been thinking about it off and on for the past year or so and God finally said, Now is the time, and we were off and running. I grabbed some friends of mine that are very talented and was willing to take this journey with me and we've been rolling ever since.

 3375   Tell us about your first events?

 Tasha  Our first event was our SASS(Sip and Stroll Social) in February 2014. It was wonderful. It went off without a hitch and we still have people saying they can't believe it was our first event. We had great music, a wonderful caterer and 13-15 vendors promoting their businesses, we also had raffles. It was a really good time, we are doing it again in the Summer.

3375    What role does your family play in your success?

 Tasha  My family plays a huge part in this. My husband, Lamont, is actually Brown Gyrls CFO. We really wouldn't be able to do this without him. My kids have been so understanding realizing that Mommy may work from home but I'm always busy...they have been real awesome.

 3375   Who inspires you?

Tasha  People that have dared to step out on faith and start their own business, no matter what it is, they inspire me. The women entrepreneurs that we have connected with on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, they inspire me. The people that grind daily, just to carve their own path...they inspire me.

3375   Whats the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?

 Tasha  The first thing I do? I pray. I that God continues to keep and provide for my family and I thank him for everything that He has done so far in my life and the lives of those around me.

3375   How important is it to give back to your community?

 Tasha  It is very important. Our goal is to find a charity or non-profit organization to partner with. Right now, we are looking to plan an event for Ovarian Cancer Awareness in September.

 3375   What is your greatest accomplishment?

 Tasha  My greatest accomplishment to date is getting Brown Gyrls off the ground and having a very successful event.

The Joi Element was birthed from the marriage of poetry and the right side of Joi Donaldson’s brain. Joi Donaldson has been writing since the age of seven. Diagnosed with Dysthymia at an early  age, her painfully shy nature gave way to her truly creative side, allowing her to best express herself through written word. Fast-forward a few years, after a painful bout with Endometriosis, the birth of her daughter and a messy separation, Joi finally found herself and her voice. She started performing Spoken Word on a whim in 2010 and since then she has embraced the stage and the art form. The emotional reactions she receives, ranging from laughter to tears to revelation, feed her spirit. Desired in her community for not only her written work but also her ambiance, Joi is frequently requested for special events and appearances. Joi Donaldson has written three books to date: To She Found Daydreaming in Glasses, Full of Myself and Things I want to Say, respectively. She is the sole owner and founder of Right Side Reign LLC, a creative collective that houses her book and album sales, videography/editing services and creative consulting ventures. Some of her clients include Michael “Maestro” Turner of Motivation Central LLC, Brown Gyrl Inc. and Shauna Denee of Shauna Denee Ministries. A member and staple of The Project Band RVA, Joi can be seen and heard performing weekly in The Listening Room Unplugged. She also serves faithfully on the audio/visual team at Village of Faith Ministries. Joi Donaldson refuses to allow her illness or former depressive diagnosis to define her passion. She discovered her mission is to tell her story, to encourage those who have experienced similar trials and she strives to do so through her poetry, Spoken Word and the occasional song.


3375 So, tell us a little bit about your background. Where are you from?

Joi   I am originally from South Richmond, VA even though I call Newport News my second
home.

3375  When and why did you begin writing?

Joi  My creativity was cultivated initially out of necessity. I began writing at age 7 because
I was very shy and awkward. I wasn’t great with my words at all when speaking so I
resorted to writing to express myself fully.

3375   What inspired you to write your first book?

Joi   I came across notebooks and binders filled with my old poems and stories. I started
reading them and during my maternity leave I decided to turn them into a book. The
book began to evolve as I went through some of my darkest seasons, most notably
separating from my then-husband and becoming an unemployed single mom. A ton of
rewrites followed until I had drawn the picture God wanted me to show.

3375   So I have to ask, do you ever experience writer's block? If so,
how do you get through it?

Joi   I experienced my longest and deepest writer’s block during my senior year of high
school going into college. I couldn’t write because I was so numb. My grandmother
was diagnosed with cancer and I was grief stricken. I slowly came out of it during my
sophomore year of college. Now if I have writer’s block, I step away from whatever I’m
working on. I find that helps me gain a new perspective and frees up my thoughts.

3375   So let’s switch gears for a moment. When did you first consider yourself a writer?

I am just now considering myself a Writer. Initially I just saw myself as someone who
writes because her spoken words tend to get in the way. I honestly have not gotten
used to the words Author and Poet neither because to me they seem one-tiered. Almost
one-trick-ponyesque. I prefer Writer because there’s no limit on that word.

3375   What book(s) have influenced your life most?

Joi   Aloud: Voices from the Nuyorican Poets Café most influenced my current style of
writing. I recently finished reading a book called Me Before You by JoJo Moyes that
influenced my story-telling style.

3375   What book(s) are you reading now?

Joi   I Love Him, He Loves Me Not by Adenike Lucas

3375   Is there someone you consider a mentor?

Joi   Shauna Denee of Shauna Denee Ministries is definitely high up there on my mentor
list. I consider a mentor someone who is blazing their own path; who won’t allow smoke
to be blown up their butt just as much as they won’t blow smoke up yours. They are
genuine. They lead by example and not just by word.

3375   When did you decide to become a film director?

Joi   I have had dreams of being in the motion picture business since middle school. The
movie that most influenced me to pursue that route is The Truman Show. I have always
been in love with movies but I have been blessed to work in the nuts and bolts of that
industry. It’s not for that faint or those looking to make it the easy way.

3375   Have you directed a film yet? If so, what the name?

Joi   Not yet but I’ve started developing some scripts and short film ideas for 2014.
You said you overcame obstacles as an adolescent.

3375   What were some of the obstacles?

Joi   I’m just coming to terms with a lot of the things I went through as a kid. My parents were
very broken; they both had some internal issues that I took the brunt of. One chose to
run away; the other chose to drink. In the midst of that I was molested by a relative.
Overall, I think of it as the devil came for me early but God got to me first.

3375   If you could go anywhere in the world where would you go?

Joi   Italy. Not to the tourist spots. The secluded areas you can only read about.

3375   Tell us about your new book!

Joi   My newest book was birthed out of my frustration of wanting to get through to my
child. She’s extremely smart but she’s also 4 ½. I started thinking about all the things
I wanted to say to her without sounding like a jerk. It was a ton of one-liners that I
expanded on and it became my third offering. This is also the first book in which I’ve
had contributions. Friends and family added to this book which makes it extra special.

3375   What's the message you want people to get from your book?

Joi   Parenting is not one-size-fits-all. And it’s okay to feel like you’re going crazy. Majority of
us, especially single parents, feel the same.

3375   What is your advice to the young women that wants to be successful as a writer?

Joi   Don’t write for others or what you may think the public wants to read; write for yourself.
Tell your own unique story.

Red Sonya

 When you hear that thunderclap in the distance right before a rainstorm, you know Red Sonya is coming! Hailing from the World's Most Famous Beach ( Daytona Beach, Florida), Red Sonya is definitely a lyrical tornado when it comes to her rapid-fire delivery, creative wordplay, and egnimatic presence. Even before music, she has always captured & fascinated people of all walks of life with her presence alone. She has superstar status/sex symbol written all over her. Men lust after her and women emulate and want to be her. She definitely has star quality.

Red Sonya has been around music all her life-her father was a saxophone player in a band. Born August 29th, she shares the same birthday as the biggest entertainer of all time-Michael Jackson. She adored & idolized the late singer and announced to her parents at the tender age of 6 that she wanted to entertain just like her musical hero. She did just that when she released her first record at the age of 12 with "Give A Dog A Bone" from her debut album "Doggy Style Funk" on Boomin'/BMG Records, a subsidiary of Jive/RCA Records. It peaked at #54 on the Billboard Rap Charts and received international attention. She took tome off from music for awhile to pursue & continue her education, even opening several businesses. The music seed took hold and began to grow within her again and she decided to put out a mixtape in 2011 called "Red Sonya's Street Gems" with guest appearances from Haitian Fresh, KLC (former lead producer of No-Limit Records), Cardiak, Grindmode ("I'm So High" fame) and Mattnificent, a fellow local up-and coming rap artist. The mixtap because a street success. She is currently working on her upcoming release CODE RED. Red Sonya  I've been doing music since I was 7....over 15 years. Michael Jackson was my inspiration as far as wanting to do music.

3375   How would you describe your style and best attribute as an artist? 

Red Sonya  Basically my style is street with a sexy edge...I'm just honest. People don't expect me to address certain truths in my music because they consider me to be such a glamorous, girly sexy female...well I am (lol), but there's a hardness about me that comes from my background and how I grew up. So my honesty & rawness as well as the lyricism makes me stand out.

3375   Tell us your greatest experience thus far as a music artist and why? 

Red Sonya  Meeting my producer KLC and meeting one of my favorite Southern rappers, Mystikal. They're family now. I've always, ALWAYS wanted to work with KLC. I love his sound and he's a legend. I've learned so much from him...

3375   What is the biggest challenge you face being an artist?

Red Sonya  The sexism in this industry and the respect factor towards female rap artists. I work my ass off, just as hard if not harder than the average male rapper and sometimes it seems to be not enough....but I like proving males wrong. I love the challenge of showing them that I work just as hard and I'm creative-lyrically I feel I'm better than most and it shows when they get intimidated by me. I've even written for male rappers! Lol

3375   Who would you like to collaborate with in the music industry and why?

Red Sonya  My brother Mystikal, for one. He got a mouth on him just like I do, lol. I would love to do something with T.I....3 D Natee, Rick Rozay, Drake, I love Snoop Dogg....

3375   So how do you feel you rank against top music talents today? And why?

Red Sonya  I feel like I can stand next to any of them because lyrically, I feel I'm raw...people love WHAT I say & HOW I say things because I sound like no one else. I literally write and spit everything you hear comin' out of my mouth.

3375   What are you working on now, and when can fans expect to hear more from you?

Right now I'm doing remixes & freestyles from local DJ's...I'm about to focus my attention back on finishing up my album, Code Red...its executive-produced by KLC. Whenever his schedule calms down on the road with Mystikal we can get back in the studio and finish this work....

3375   Give readers one tip about pursuing their dreams?

Red Sonya  Stay focused. Be determined, not deterred by haters and dream killers. Keep a positive support group around you...and learn ALL YOU CAN about this game. It can be real shady. 

3375   So what do you want to accomplish as an artist overall? 

Red Sonya  I want to do a number of things. I not only do just music. I have a shoe/accessories brand in the works as well as some beauty projects. Outside of music I'm a licensed beauty professional...I have some other things in development too, including a movie script I'm developing...I have a party interested in it in Miami.

3375   If music never existed, what do you think you would be doing?

Red Sonya  What I been doing-makeup artist! Lol Otherwise my second career choice would be in communications because people say I read and speak extremely well.

3375   Tell us your influences and inspirations?

Red Sonya  My Great-Grandmother. She built a small fortune from nothing with just a 3rd grade education (real estate). My mother for her strength & resilience...I aspire to help others in need because I've always been a compassionate person.

3375   What do you think of the “Hip Hop” music world right now?

Red Sonya  I don't. Lol. I listen to Kendrick Lamar and Cassidy tho, as well as Snoop, Scarface, Juvenile, Biggie, Lil Kim & some others...mainly old school. Not really feeling alot of the B.S. That's out there right now....

3375   What quote do you feel best represents you?

Red Sonya  "successful people find a way to persist." My favorite quote of all time. Describes me perfectly because I'm determined...

Red Sonya  Kendrick Lamar. Cassidy. Trick Daddy, TGT, Mystikal, KLC, Rick Rozay, Juvenile, Future and some local artists I know....and 3D Natee.

Red Sonya  Lol....I never discuss my personal life...yes there's somebody special..but technically? I'm single. *giggle*

 What Inspired Me To Rap Was Sitting Back And Watching Everybody Around Me Start To Get Involved In Music I'm From South Baltimore But I Be Around All The Parts Of Baltimore And There Was One Specific Time That Really Made Me Want To Rap I Was In The Projects Of Brooklyn Homes And I Heard People Freestyling With No Mic Just Some Instrumentals Playing Out Loud From There Car And Everyone Was Surrounding Them To Hear What They Was Saying So One Of My Friends Was Over There And Invited Me To Come Rap For Them I Hesitated At First But Then I Started To Rap For Them I Kept Flowing No mistakes In My Rap Or Nothing They Said I Did Good And I Could Have. INTERVIEW WITH UP AND COMING MUSIC ARTIST ENTRA

 ENTRA

"Entra" was born Brittany Simmons on February 14, 1989.  Raised in New Bedford  MA, she grew up with her mother, father, and her older brother, who played a major role in her life.  She always had a deep love for music, art, and poetry.  It wasn't until she was around the age of 9 that she actually wrote her first "rap".  She continued to write poetry because it became therapeutic.  It was easier for her to express herself and "organize her thoughts" with a pen and paper.  By age 17  a sub shop co-worker convinced her to record a few tracks in his studio.   Although she never did anything with those tracks, she loved recording and she never lost her passion for writing.   At age 23, right after having her son, she ended up in multiple studios that she searched for herself.  She began writing even more and even better, and realized she was getting No negative reactions. In fact, she was getting the exact opposite, people loved it. With that being said, she finally decided to pursue her dream.

ENTRA  My real name is Brittany Simmons but I go by Entra. I represent New Bedford, Massachusetts

ENTRA  My style as an artist is classy but with that little bit of edge and attitude I would say my best attribute is my creativity with the way i write and the way im able to make people see things through my eyes and feel me.

ENTRA  My greatest experience so far is meeting new people that share the same love and passion for music that i do.

3375  What is the biggest challenge you face being an artist?

ENTRA  Being taken seriously and getting people to actually listen, especially as a female.

3375  Who would you like to collaborate with in the music industry and why?

ENTRA  I would Love to collaborate with Jadakiss, because, for one, hes my favorite rapper,
but also he paints a picture with every verse he writes & his style is just smooth.

3375  So how do you feel you rank against top music talents today? And why?

ENTRA  I dont think im better or worse than any body, every body has there own style I mean of course theres a few garbage and/or so so rappers out there making it big that i Know I'm better than, but ay, that's something I haven't done myself so who am I to talk?

3375  What are you working on now, and when can fans expect to hear more from you?

ENTRA  Right now im working on finishing up my mixtape, "Not what you'd expect"
which will hopefully be out no later than next month

3375  Give my readers one tip about pursuing their dreams?

ENTRA  If you got dreams that you truly believe in, keep anyone that doesn't see your vision out your circle, cuz theyre only gonna block your view. and at the end of the day, no ones gonna push harder for you than your own self. just don't give up

3375  So what do you want to accomplish as an artist overall?

ENTRA  Just to be heard, just for people to relate, i wanna go as far as i can with this and that's to the top.

ENTRA  My influence is just life in general I try my hardest everyday to turn negative situations or feelings into a positive actions, I'm inspired by the reactions and responses of my fans and my own self motivation.

3375  What do you think of the “R&B and Hip Hop music world right now?

ENTRA  Honestly I dont listen to much new music, but theirs definitely a lot of hot new R&B and Hip Hop out there when I do hear it.
